How Many Chickens Can Kill an Elephant?

How many chickens does it take to kill an elephant?

We looked up cool facts about animals and discovered that a certain number of chickens can kill one full-grown elephant, and you won’t believe the answer!

First, let’s learn five facts about them:

Chickens:

  • Weigh about 4-8 pounds.
  • There are roughly 1.2 million chickens in the world.
  • They are omnivores.
  • They have better eyesight than humans.
  • Chickens can run up to 9 mph.

Elephants:

  • Weigh about 2-7 TONS.
  • There are about 415,000 elephants in the world.
  • They are herbivores.
  • Can only see up to 10 meters and in shades of green and beige.
  • Elephants can run up to 25 mph.

Now let’s interview people to see what they think:

5th grade:

  • Lily Leigh Taylor laughs and says 2,000.
  • Eliana Selene Bray then says 2,500.
  • Mariah Ann Lynn Goff said maybe 30,000.
  • Jaxon James says zero with a scoff.
  • Malachi Sitler says 2 laughing.

6th grade:

  • Easton Hadfield says 69,000.
  • Ezra Timothy Dohner thinks 100,000.
  • Dawson Shay Rocke believes 1,000,000.
  • Sydney Anna Marie Edwards thinks 1,000,000.
  • Bronwyn Mayo says 100,000.

7th grade:

  • Drake Winston Dockery says 102.
  • Anna Sears says that the answer is 96.
  • Analise Hubert says it obviously is 93.
  • Everett Axelxson laughs saying 1 trillion.
  • Jadon Bunting thinks 17 billion.
  • Maddox Houston McClellan says 18 billion.

8th grade:

  • Levi Gerber thinks probably just 20 cause they would stack up and poke their eyes.
  • Maddie Cooper says 72.
  • Brookelyn Adams says 84.
  • Brennan Michael McAllister says 10 million.
  • Maxx Cool says 30.

Teachers:

  • Mr. Gundy thinks 73.
  • Mr. Bayer says it’s impossible, but 120.
  • Mr. Heider says it is not possible.
  • Mr. Troutt says 1 chicken because they would poke out the eyes and then the elephant would starve.
  • Mr. Schaidle took too long ranting…

With all the good guesses we received, nobody was right, unfortunately. If the chickens are actively trying to kill the elephant, we can calculate by weight. A male elephant weighs about 6000kg, while the roosters of the golden comet chicken average about 2.72kg. So, if we divide 6000 by 2.72, we get about 2206 roosters for a draw. By this logic, it would take 2207 chickens to kill an elephant. Congratulations to Lily Taylor for having the closest guess!
