Can Honesty Be Bad?

Can Honesty Be Bad?

Studies show that people can agree that honesty can be bad because the truth can hurt. Other people agree that honesty can’t be bad because telling the truth is always better. We asked 2 eighth-grade students and 2 teachers which side they were on; here are their responses.

Miss Haggerty: “No, I think even if you have to be brutally honest, the outcome will always be better than not being truthful.”

Ms. Worner: “Honesty itself cannot be bad; however, there can be many unpleasant repercussions as a result of telling the truth.”

Aliyah Bale: “No, because the truth will always come out eventually, and if you tell it the first time, it won’t be as bad.”

Travis Adams: “Yes, it could, because the truth might hurt if they are honest.”
