We all know that Jolly Ranchers and Life Savers come in many different flavors and types, but which one is better?
Jolly Ranchers:
Jolly Rancher candy first started in 1949 during a very cold winter. It began when the Harmsen siblings were selling ice cream. Since they could not sell much ice cream in the cold weather, they decided to sell hard candy to boost their sales. Their very first flavor was cinnamon, which they called “Fire Stix.”
By 1966, the company had grown and was selling over 125,000 pounds of hard candy. The company was later sold to Beatrice Foods, and new flavors like apple, blue raspberry, and watermelon were added. After the brand was sold again, the cinnamon flavor was discontinued in 2019. Today, Jolly Ranchers are well known as a popular candy that many people enjoy, and teachers often use them as small rewards for students.
Life Savers:
Life Savers first started back in 1913. They originally made mints in only one flavor—peppermint. During the 1920s and 1930s, they added fruity flavors to attract more customers. The company was eventually sold, and later it was sold to Wrigley.
In 1992, they introduced the gummy version of Life Savers. Today, the brand has become one of the top non-chocolate candies. Like Jolly Ranchers, Life Savers are often used as small rewards for students, and the mint flavor is sometimes used before tests.
