The 7th grade boys basketball season just came to a close. They had a remarkable season, making the 1 seed in regionals with a record of 19-4, but came up short in the semifinal game. In their last game, the boys were down fifteen going into the fourth quarter, but turned the score around, coming back and almost taking the W. They only ended up losing by 4 points. We asked all the players a few questions along with their coach, Mr. Gundy.
What was going through your head when you saw Brady on all fours after getting his ankles broken?
Jude Gerber – “O LAWD!”
Milo Stalter – “He’s a bum.”
Clayton Burnham – “That Brady is cooked.”
Rigg Stoller – “I was thinking he was dead.”
Easton Stalter – “I knew he would get right back up and keep going.” (we don’t talk about that)
How far did you expect to get in the postseason?
Brady Leman – “idk.”
Jude Gerber – “Sectionals.”
Milo Stalter – “All the way.”
William Sauder – “Win Regionals.”
Wiley Wernz – “I thought we could make it to at least sectionals.”
What was your favorite moment from the season?
Brady Leman – “When we came back and beat Washington Central.”
William Sauder – “When I had my first 3. A bank in! 😄😄”
Wiley Wernz – “My favorite moment of the season was when I scored my first shot.”
Brantley Simpkins – ” .”
Deklyn McCarrey – “Probably when Jude crossed me in practice.”
Mr. Gundy – “Watching the growth of the individual players through games and practice. What most people do not realize is what goes on behind the scenes during practices. Each player on this team improved their skills, mentally and physically. This was one of the most coachable teams I have ever coached. They have so much to be proud of!”
Then we had one more question for Mr. Gundy.
How did you think the basketball season went?
“The season overall was a success. It did not end like we hoped, but we did a lot of winning and got better throughout the season.”
Congratulations on a great season!
