As the new year begins, so does volleyball. Volleyball was created by a guy named William G. Morgan in 1895. It was originally called “Mintonette.” Minton is from badminton, and net is included because volleyball uses a net. The name changed over the years because it didn’t feel right, and there were so many more suggestions. Moving onto this recent year, volleyball has started back up for the year. We interviewed 8th grade and asked them some questions about their volleyball experiences. How long have you been playing volleyball? What main position do you play? What is your main goal for this year?
Dalyah Knapp: “3 years, I play outside hitter and back row, and my main goal is to go to sectionals.”
Juliana Tierrablanca: “1st year in school volleyball, 2 years in all, I play middle front/back, my goal is to get better at serving.”
Ava Wiegand: “I have been playing volleyball for around 7 years, I am a setter and I play offside hitter, my goal is to win more games, and to get farther is postseason.”
Bentley Brace: “Since 1st grade, I play middle front row, and my goal is to win regionals.”
Brylie Prina: “I have been playing for 7 years now, my position is outside, and my goal is to win regionals and win more games than we did last year.”
Brooklyn Kemp: “I have been playing volleyball since 2nd/3rd grade, I am a setter and right side hitter, and my goal is that we make it further in post-season.”
Brynn Wilson: “I have been playing for around 8–9 years, I play outside hitter/back row, and my goal is to get more wins on our record, and hopefully get closer to state.”
Harper Johnson: “I have been playing for 6–7 years, my main position is outside hitter, and my goal is to have fun, win some games, and hopefully get close to the state.”
