Volleyball was created in 1895 by William G. Morgan. It is a mixture of basketball (the ball), tennis (the net), and handball. There are a few concepts to it, like bumping/passing, setting, spiking/hitting, and serving. It first starts with a server, who can serve overhand or underhand across the net to the other team. The goal is not to have the ball touch the floor. Six people are on the court on each side, and all try to pass the ball to the setter.
The 7th grade girls are currently 4-0. We interviewed the 7th grade volleyball team, asking what position they play and when they started playing. Here’s what they said:
Rome Leman – I play Outside All-Around, and I started playing volleyball in 2nd grade.
Brynley Schieler – I am the Libero, and I started playing in 2nd grade.
Kinleigh Clemets – I play Middle Front mostly & sometimes Middle Back! I started playing in 5th grade!
Gabbie English – I don’t play since I’m a manager! But I started being a manager this year, and it’s very fun.
Hadassah Dohner – I play setter and right side, and I started in about 2nd grade.
Riley Harris – I have played left side this year. I have been playing since 3rd grade.
Zola Ahlers – I am setter and started playing in 1st grade.
Cora Holt – I play left back and started in 5th grade.
Adley Wesner – I play middle front, and I have been playing since kindergarten, so 5 years old.
Beau Faichney – I play middle, and I started in kindergarten. I am in 7th grade!
Nella Stoller – Mostly have played outside, but more right-side this year. Playing since about 4th grade.
Aizlee Garber – I play right side, and I have played volleyball since kindergarten.
Alyssa Leman – I play outside, and I started playing volleyball in like 2nd grade.
August Zimmerman – I’m the manager this year. I started playing volleyball in 5th grade.
Elsie Cearlock – Outside All-Around, since around 3rd–4th grade.
Eleanor Kemp – I play setter, and I started playing in second or third grade.
Mariah Goff – I play back row, and I started playing volleyball in 2nd grade.
Norah Martin – I am the manager this year. I started playing volleyball in 3rd or 4th grade.
