Explore Classes at EMS
Explore classes are special courses that 7th- and 8th-graders get to choose each quarter. These classes give students hands-on experiences, teach new skills, and introduce different hobbies or potential career paths.
Explore classes take place during the last three hours of the school day and are a favorite part of being in 7th and 8th grade. They’re fun, creative, and help students learn practical skills they can use in everyday life.
There are many classes to choose from, and the options change each quarter. Here are a few examples of explore classes, who teaches them, when they’re offered, and what they’re all about:
Grounds Management (1st and 4th Quarters) — Mr. Wear
Students take care of the baseball field, work in the greenhouse, and help with outdoor school projects.
Journalism (All 4 Quarters) — Ms. Worner
Students work on the school newspaper, writing articles about what’s happening at EMS.
Spanish (1st and 2nd Quarters) — Mrs. Hobbs
Students learn basic Spanish vocabulary and phrases. As Mrs. Hobbs says, “You are learning what a kindergartener learns in Spanish!” Students also watch movies in Spanish to help reinforce the language.
Robotics (2nd and 3rd Quarters) — Mr. Wear
Students get to program robots and even battle them against each other.
Future Innovators (3rd and 4th Quarters) — Mrs. Weaver
This STEM-based class focuses on creativity and problem-solving. Students work on hands-on projects and come up with innovative ideas.
There are many other explore options available throughout the year — these are just a few examples! Explore classes give students a chance to try new things, discover interests, and learn skills that might inspire their future careers.
