Eureka Dance Team Spotlight
Dance is a form of art that allows people to express their feelings and emotions through movement. It dates back to around 9000 BCE, when researchers discovered cave paintings in India depicting figures dancing.
Today, we interviewed members of the dance team to learn more about their love for dance. Here are the questions we asked:
-
What’s your favorite part about dance?
-
What made you join dance?
-
What are you looking forward to most this dance season?
-
Do you practice dance at home?
-
What’s your favorite dance move?
-
Do you do any other sports?
-
If there was one thing you could change about dance, what would it be?
-
Do you think you’ll make it to state? Why or why not?
-
What’s your least favorite dance move?
-
If you could dance to any song, what would it be?
-
Who’s your dance inspiration?
Here’s what they said!

Favorite part about dance: How everyone has to work together to get the best end result.
Why she joined: I’ve always loved dancing, and my prior dance classes made me interested in joining the team.
Looking forward to: Traveling for competitions and bonding with the team.
Practices at home: All the time — it’s really helped me improve my technique and skills.
Favorite move: A La Seconde (turns in second).
Other sports: None, but I’m active in other groups outside of school.
What she’d change: The publicity and recognition dance and cheer get — I feel we don’t get as much credit as other sports.
State chances: I think we can make it to state if we work hard and focus on our routine.
Least favorite move: Chases — not because I dislike them, I just prefer other skills.
Song choice: I loved our lyrical routine to “Praying” by Kesha last year, but I also love “Vienna” by Billy Joel.
Colleen Husted
Favorite part about dance: Getting to show others what we can do.
Why she joined: I’ve been dancing for a long time, and I wanted to support my school.

Practices at home: Yes, but not full out; I mostly go over it in my head.
Favorite move: None in particular.
Other sports: Not currently.
What she’d change: Nothing!
State chances: I think (and hope) we’ll make it to state because we’ve gone for eight years in a row — I don’t want to break the streak!
Least favorite move: Aliciconés (probably spelled wrong!).
Song choice: Something happier — our songs tend to be sad.
Inspiration: Myself — I dance to make myself happy and do what I love.
