Last week, the 7th graders went on a field trip to Timber Pointe. Timber Pointe is an outdoor adventure center in Hudson, IL. There you can participate in a scavenger hunt across the property, go fishing in Lake Bloomington, ride in a giant swing, archery, build a boat using the materials given, climb a rock wall, and/or fly down a zip-line. The 7th grade boys went on Thursday, September 28th and the 7th grade girls went on Friday, September 29th. The girls participated in the Build a Boat challenge, the giant swing, the rock wall, the zip-line, archery, and the scavenger hunt. The boys had more time and were able to climb the vertical wall at the rock wall. The boys went fishing, did archery, climbed the rock wall, went down the zip-line, went on the giant swing, and did the build a boat challenge.
To explain some of the activities further, the giant swing is a contraption in which you are hooked to a metal bar that is attached to a rope. The other people pull you up and you get to choose how high you go up, and then you will say an already established safe word. You will get a countdown and then you get to let go of the rope. You swing down towards the ground and you rock back and forth. The rock wall and zip-line are one activity. You climb up the rock wall and zip-line down. The scavenger hunt uses someone’s phone to take videos and pictures of the kids doing the poses or motions listed on the list. For the build a boat activity, you are given cardboard, paint, markers, a tutu/hat/glasses/, etc. to build a boat that will float a teacher, chaperone, or one of the workers.
