Favorite Halloween Movies at EMS
The first-ever Halloween movie was released in 1978, and it’s categorized as an American slasher film. According to IMDb, the most loved Halloween movie is Hocus Pocus, while Casper is the most-watched. There are countless Halloween films, but which one is the best? Is it Hocus Pocus? The Nightmare Before Christmas? Hotel Transylvania?
To find out, I interviewed 18 students and staff at EMS about their favorite Halloween movie. Here’s what they had to say:
Student and Staff Responses
Hailey Zimmerman, 8th grade: “I don’t watch Halloween movies.”
Nella Stoller, 7th grade: “I don’t know, I don’t have a favorite one.”
Jessie Hise, 6th grade: “My favorite movie is Casper the Big Friendly Ghost because it is really funny!”
Rome Leman, 7th grade: “Hocus Pocus, because it is a baddie movie.”
Ayla Payne, 8th grade: “Mine is Room on the Broom.”
Sterling Garber, 5th grade: “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”
Mrs. Hobbs, 8th-grade teacher: “My favorite Halloween movie is the Disney movie Twitches. The main actresses, Tia and Tamera Mowry, are iconic! The costumes are really cool, and the movie was great for the early 2000s. I remember renting it from the video store every Halloween growing up.”
Davis Nichols, 6th grade: “Hotel Transylvania is the only one that’s decently close.”
Roland Evall, 6th grade: “Art the Clown, because it is a horror movie that really sparks my attention.”
Vivian Brown, 6th grade: “Hocus Pocus is the only Halloween movie I know.”
Zach Molzof, 7th grade: “Coraline, because I like the parents and the storyline.”
Drake Foster, 7th grade: “Scream, because…”
Brynlee Blunier, 8th grade: “Hotel Transylvania. That’s the only one I have really watched.”
Lucy Wettstein, 7th grade: “Hocus Pocus, because that is the only one I know about.”
Brantley Simpkins, 7th grade: “Ghostbusters, so I don’t have to say Hocus Pocus.”
Alyssa Lehman, 7th grade: “Hocus Pocus is a good movie, and my family watches it every year.”
Lauren Hambleton, 8th grade: “Hocus Pocus, because it is just like that, and the three witches are baddies.”
Brynn Wilson, 8th grade: “Scream, the old-fashioned one, because it’s the first Halloween movie I ever watched.”
As you can see, there are many interesting Halloween movies, including Scream, Hotel Transylvania, Hocus Pocus, and Coraline. Some students only knew a few of these films!
