The student council is run by Mrs. Ogg, the 7th-grade social studies teacher, and Mrs. Straub, the 7th-grade special education teacher. There are 33 members in student council this year. They do so much for the school, including organizing fundraisers and many other activities.
I asked Mrs. Ogg and Mrs. Straub several questions about student council. First, I asked, “Are you doing anything new this year?” Then I asked, “What’s your favorite part of student council?” The third question was, “What does student council do?” I also asked, “What events does student council put on for the school?” Finally, I asked how many students are in student council.
Mrs. Ogg:
-
“Yes :)”
-
“Watching students rise up to lead… and seeing so many students who love to serve and help others!”
-
“We help make the school better, try to lighten the load for others, encourage students and staff, raise money for those who are struggling, and so much more.”
-
“Dress-up days, fundraisers, help run the bake sale for PTO, Secret Santa for staff, etc.”
-
“Around 30”
Mrs. Straub:
-
“This year we plan to introduce some new fundraisers that will get the whole school involved.”
-
“Student council is such a fun way to be involved with EMS. My favorite part of student council is the students we work with. I love meeting new groups of students each year.”
-
“Our ultimate goal for student council is servant leadership. We strive to have a crew that can be leaders of this school by example and through serving others. This can look like finding small ways to serve both students and staff, taking care of the recycling around the building, organizing fundraisers for St. Jude and Operation Christmas, putting together encouraging bulletin boards around the school, and volunteering for our EMS concessions.”
-
“We have two big fundraisers: one for Operation Christmas and one for St. Jude. We plan to host our annual staff volleyball game for our St. Jude fundraiser this year. We will also introduce a brand-new fundraiser for Operation Christmas. Alongside our two fundraisers, we help run the PTO bake sale, shop for Operation Christmas, volunteer for EMS concessions and EHS events, and sell candy grams for Valentine’s Day.”
-
“This year, we have 33 members.”
