Soccer is a year-round sport, normally played in the fall. Soccer is a team sport, and in order to win, you need to work with your team. Normally, soccer is played with 11 players on a rectangular field. A standard match lasts 90 minutes. To advance the ball, you must kick or dribble it. To score, you kick the ball into the rectangular net, but there is also a goalkeeper trying to block it.
To get the ball back after the other team has it, you must kick the ball out of the opponent’s reach. However, you have to be careful not to hurt the other player, or it will be a penalty.
In PE, we recently started the soccer unit. Today, I asked people if they like this soccer unit. Here is what they had to say:
-
Preston Fuller responded, “I absolutely love soccer because it makes me feel very good, plus it’s pretty hard!”
-
Jackson Hitchins said, “Yes, I have always loved soccer as a kid. I currently play for Metamora U14 team as Right Middle, Left Middle, or even Goalkeeper.”
-
Wiley Wernz responded, “I like the soccer unit because we get to go outside, and because I play soccer, it is easy to score goals.”
-
Rigg Stoller said, “I am not the biggest fan of the soccer unit, but it is good to learn all the sports.”
-
Sadie Hoffman responded, “I have missed most of the days due to Lifewise, but the two days I’ve done it, it was pretty good.”
-
Aaron Stoller said, “Soccer is fun if you have the right people on your team.”
-
Mylee Kent said, “No, I don’t like the soccer unit because I hate soccer, and I hate being split up from my friends.”
-
Nella Stoller responded, “No!!! It’s awful. I dread it every year.”
-
Jaxon James said, “No, I don’t like running, and kinda because I like trucking kids.”
-
Carter Farney said, “No, because when I play I kick the ball over the net and you don’t get to hit kids like in football.”
-
Kinleigh Clements said, “I hate the soccer unit! It’s so boring, causes so many injuries, and is not the most fun thing we could be playing. So no, I hate it with all my heart.”
-
Brady Leman said, “No, I hate soccer.”
-
Mr. Bellini said, “I like every unit because in each unit some kids will love and enjoy it, and others will enjoy different units. We do a variety of games so kids can get exercise and learn new things. At some point, a unit will come up that each kid will enjoy.”
-
Mrs. Hoelscher said, “I like the soccer unit because it is not a sport that everyone has a chance to play, like basketball and volleyball. Plus, it gets everyone moving and learning how to work as a team!”
-
Cora Holt said, “Yes, because it’s better than most units in PE, and it’s kinda fun to play!”
-
Zola Ahlers said, “No!! Because it is boring! I would rather play volleyball!”
-
Juliana Tierrablanca said, “I do like the soccer unit, because it can be fun to play a competitive game sometimes.”
-
Elsie Cearlock said, “No, because it’s just not fun, but also I didn’t have to do it, so I didn’t really mind it this year.”
