The last meal—also known as the “special meal”—is a final meal request made by a person before they are executed by the state. Of course, there are limits: you can’t request alcohol or anything with tobacco, for example. Still, last meals are a long-standing American tradition, with requests ranging from tiny to absolutely massive.
I asked some teachers and students what their last meal would be, and here’s what they said:
Mrs. Anderson:
“Seafood, peanut butter ice cream with dark chocolate syrup, and a Caesar salad.”
Mrs. Bluiner:
“Crab cakes and coffee.”
Journey Garcia:
“My last meal would be crab legs, steak, and a lot of desserts I’ve never had. The crab legs because they’re my favorite food. Steak is very good, and the dessert I want to try soooo bad.”
Mrs. Burnham:
“Sushi, because it is my absolute favorite meal and I could eat it every day!”
Brady Leman:
“I would get Raising Cane’s chicken tenders and sauce, a New York strip steak, Culver’s cheese curds, a cherry Pepsi, a double chocolate brownie Blizzard from DQ, and a large McDonald’s fry.”
Austin Logan:
“Spaghetti, because the way my mom makes it is super good.”
Cora Holt:
“British sausage rolls, a cheeseburger, cookies and cream ice cream, and a Dr. Pepper. I chose these items because they are my favorite.”
Luke Casey:
“The entire KFC meal, because it will be very yummy in my tummy.”
Mrs. Selvey:
“Hawaiian pizza, Diet Coke, cheesecake.”
Mrs. Bishop:
“Texas Roadhouse rolls with butter, crab legs, lobster, sweet tea, garlic rosemary red potatoes, a skillet cookie, and tiramisu.”
Hadassah Dohner (7th grade):
“Steak, mashed potatoes, candy salad, Chick-fil-A 8-piece chicken nuggets, and a gallon of ice-cold Dr. Pepper.”
Brynley Schieler:
“A Subway sandwich, a Chick-fil-A spicy chicken sandwich, a Texas Roadhouse roll with butter, and a gallon of peach tea.”
