Study Tips That Actually Work
Studying has always been a challenge in kids’ lives. Many students in this generation tend to wait until the night before a test to start studying. But don’t worry—we’ve got some simple tips to help make studying easier and more effective.
1. Get Your Notes Ready
Before you start studying, make sure you have all your notes in front of you. Having everything in one place helps keep you focused and organized.
2. Make a Study Schedule
If you’re not sure when to study, try making a schedule during your free time. This helps you keep track of when you’re available to study and prevents last-minute cramming.
3. Review Early and Often
Once you know a test is coming up, start reviewing your notes right away. Your brain actually absorbs information better right after you’ve written or typed it—so don’t wait!
4. Find a Calm Space
If studying stresses you out, try finding a quiet, calm place to focus. When your surroundings are peaceful, your brain relaxes and can think more clearly.
5. Use Flashcards
Teachers will often give out flashcards to help you study—but if they don’t, you can easily make your own. Just write the answer on one side and the question on the other. A lot of students use this method because it helps connect questions with the right answers in your memory.
We also asked some EMS students what their go-to study tips are:
Kenzie: “Sometimes I use flashcards.”
Cameron: “I use the Gimkits and Blookets my teacher gives me.”
Audrey: “If we do Wordly Wise, I use the Blooket. For other subjects, I redo the review and make flashcards.”
Kenna: “Plan ahead on studying, so the real test isn’t stressful.”
Tanner: “I just focus in class and memorize things.”
Analeigh: “I like to make a priority list of what I need to study before the test.”
Juliana: “I use the review packet and star the ones I don’t know. Then I come back to those later.”
