Dogs vs. Cats: Which is Better?
Dogs and cats are both widely loved creatures. They might look similar, but they are different in many ways—ranging from subtle differences in appearance to factors like cost that might not be immediately obvious.
Dogs tend to be larger than cats. They are usually easy to train and love to be around their owners. They also tend to be more expensive than cats. Cats are more solitary and enjoy having their own space. While cats can get lonely, they are typically independent and don’t require as much attention. Both dogs and cats are smart, but dogs excel in social intelligence, while cats are better at solving problems on their own.
I asked students and staff whether dogs or cats are better and why. Here are their responses:
- Mrs. Weaver: “I like both, but I like dogs more! They love their people more.
“ - Brynley Schieler: “Yes, I think I should own a dog because they are adorable. Also, if I could get one, I would get a Shih Tzu.”
- Luke Spangler: “I think cats are better because they are lower maintenance and don’t need as much attention.”
- Bristol Wiegand: “I think you should own a dog because they are way more active and a lot cuter.”
- Brady Thompson: “I believe you should own a dog because they can be used for protection, whereas a cat is useless.”
- Brady Leman: “I like dogs because I have one, and I hate cats.”
- Drew Stoller: “You can get more exercise with dogs. Cats just sit around and wait for you to come and pet them.”
- Natalie Selvey: “I like cats because they are just better.”
- Audrey Palomo: “I would rather have a dog because they are more fun and you can exercise with them. They are just so supportive, and I think they are a better companion in my opinion.”
- Everett Axelson: “I think cats are better because they are easier to take care of, and you only have to scoop the litter box instead of going outside and finding their droppings.”
- Brynlee Blunier: “Cats are better because they are a lot calmer than dogs.”
- Kallen Brown: “You should own a dog because they are more active and energetic.”
- Max Brown: “I think you should own a dog. I have one, and they are awesome. Cats are so mean and barely ever act like they like you. Dogs, on the other hand, always love you and always play with you.”
- Hunter Wurmnest: “I think I would rather own a dog because I already have one. I love my dog. A dog isn’t that hard to take care of, and they are man’s best friend.”
- Jack Stokowski: I think you should own a dog because there is a reason why dogs are called a man’s best friend. Unlike cats, dogs are loyal to their human companions. Do you ever wonder why dogs bark at things that make noises in the night? That’s because they are protecting you! Dogs can also be trained, unlike cats. Dogs don’t need litterboxes to use the bathroom. Just take them outside and you are pretty much done. These are a few reasons why dogs are better than cats.
