You have probably heard that the 7th-grade boys’ basketball team is going to the state championship. This is the first time in Eureka Middle School history that the boys’ basketball team has gone undefeated and will be going to the state championships in the same year. They will be playing on Thursday night at EPG High School against Metamora, a team they already beat by 25 points. They have a strong chance of winning the state title. They have already played two games for the state. The first game was against La Grange Highlands, who were also the Hornets. They won by about 20 points, and it was a great game for them.
In their second game, they played East St. Louis Lincoln, a tough team with two very good players. The boys managed to stop them from scoring. After that game, they celebrated, but not too much because they still had one more game to focus on.
Next, you may have also heard that the cheerleaders are going to state. They have their first competition on Wednesday. The cheerleaders have supported almost all the basketball games this season, and they’ve had a really good year. They’ve placed third, and possibly higher, in some competitions. This is impressive because you have to be confident, prepared in case someone falls, and beat a lot of teams to earn third place or better. On Thursday, they will cheer as loud as they can for the boys’ basketball team.
