This year, some 8th graders played basketball. They had an excellent season, ending with a record of 7-16. Sadly, they lost in regionals. We asked them a few questions about what they liked about the season. Then, we asked about their favorite memory of the season, followed by what their favorite team to play was and why. We also inquired about their goals for the season and whether they accomplished them. Lastly, we asked what they are looking forward to in high school basketball.
First, we interviewed Dylan Grimm. He said, “My favorite part of the season was when we played Morton because the gym was nice, and we went to Culver’s.” He then shared that his favorite memory of the season was making a buzzer-beater. When we asked him what his favorite team to play was and why, he said, “Probably D50 because we destroyed them.” We also asked him about his goals for the season and whether he achieved them. He replied that he didn’t have specific goals but wanted to improve his shot, which he did. Lastly, when asked what he was looking forward to in high school basketball, he said, “Just getting to play with friends again.”
Next, we interviewed Jadon Bunting. He said that his favorite part of the season was being a part of the team. His favorite memory was when he started a game. His favorite team to play was Washington because he played well against them. When asked about his goals for the season, he mentioned that he wanted to play his best, which he accomplished. Finally, when asked what he was looking forward to in high school basketball, he said, “Playing for the high school.”
Then, we spoke to Nohl Blunier. He said his favorite part of the season was hanging out with friends and practicing. His favorite memory was beating Washington because the team played well together. He also mentioned that his career high came during the game against Dee Mac, which he always remembers fondly. His goal for the season was to become a better teammate and player, and he is “looking forward to getting better, becoming more athletic, and playing with my brother.”
Lastly, we interviewed Finn Gerst. When we asked him about his favorite part of the season, he said, “Winning games!” His favorite team to play was any team, as he didn’t have a particular favorite. Finn’s goal for the season was to score 20 points in a game, which he achieved. When asked what he was looking forward to in high school basketball, he said, “Being able to dunk.”
