There are only so many holidays in a year—Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and more—but where are the holidays for late winter? Well, there’s St. Patrick’s Day and Easter, but those are much closer to summer. There’s also Valentine’s Day, but is that really a holiday? A survey was conducted to gather opinions on whether Valentine’s Day should be considered a holiday.
Staley Sancken made some really good points. She said that she doesn’t think it should be a holiday because there’s no real reason for it, there’s no school off, and nobody really does anything to celebrate it. This is a solid argument, especially because most important holidays come with a day or even a couple of weeks off. For example, Christmas, which in most places gives over two weeks off from school. Though some people do give chocolates or flowers, only about 52% of Americans celebrate the holiday.
In conclusion, there are valid arguments on both sides regarding whether it should be considered a holiday. However, whether you think it is or isn’t a holiday is ultimately up to you to decide.
