I chose to interview Mr. Wear, who is the new 8th-grade science teacher.
We all know that Mr. Wear loves baseball, so I asked what his favorite baseball team is.
“My favorite baseball team is the Chicago Cubs. However, the Eureka Hornets are a very close second.”
Since Mr. Wear enjoys doing a lot of things in his life, I asked, “What are your favorite hobbies?”
He replied, “Snorkeling or scuba diving: an amazing way to see and be a part of ocean creatures. It’s way better than an aquarium.”
Just out of curiosity, I asked, “What are you most passionate about?”
He responded, “I am passionate about many things! Family, baseball, and worship.”
Since New Year’s and Christmas were recent, I asked if there was anything he wanted to share about them.
“I was able to travel with my family over the holidays to Kauai, which is the oldest island in Hawaii. We were blessed with many amazing experiences, such as seeing a humpback whale swim right in front of our boat, swimming with sea turtles, hiking to the most western point of the United States, seeing a total of 21 sea turtles swim up to shore to rest for the night, watching 50-foot waves being surfed by crazy people, learning about the history of Kauai and how it was the only unconquered island, visiting the biggest coffee plantation in the United States, riding horses on the beach, adopting a dog for the day to help it get adopted, visiting NASA’s observatory in Koke State Park, visiting a local high school baseball field, and spending time with the locals of Kauai—especially the chickens!”
Then I asked, “What is your absolute favorite food or snack, and why?”
He said his favorite food is easily candy!
Mr. Wear seems to be traveling every break, so I asked, “Where would you want to vacation now?”
“I love vacationing anywhere that has a beach and possibly a volcano. It’s awesome to have the ability to go somewhere that has all major biomes on one small island.”
Finally, I asked for any fun facts about him, and he said…
“Too many to count! Ha, I enjoy what I do, and the crazy part is that it’s not the teaching of science, robotics, or baseball that keeps me motivated. It’s the students. I want them to look back on their time here at EMS and think about what a fun place it was! I hope they learned several life lessons and many things that strengthened their education.”
