Mr. Holt is the new vice principal, so I interviewed him, as people might not know much about him.
During his day, he mainly has meetings with students, parents, or other staff. The number of meetings and people he sees varies depending on the day and what happens. Some nights, he supervises sports events in the gymnasium. His average day lasts from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
I then asked what he enjoys about his job. He said that he enjoys helping the students and staff with their problems, helping them overcome challenges, and trying to make a difference in the school.
I also asked him why he decided to become a vice principal.
He said that he was working in Peoria as a music/band teacher and social studies teacher for five years after moving from Wales. After those five years, a job opened up in Eureka for an administrative role, so he took it. He said he wanted the administrative role because he preferred helping teachers rather than teaching.
I also asked him what helps him get through his day, and he said that the students and staff do. He also mentioned that wanting to serve their needs helps him as well.
I asked him what else he does around the school. He said that he does the Wednesday announcements and helps clean up after lunch on occasion.
