Christmas is a time at the end of the year when families get together to open presents, play games, and have fun. Most traditions nowadays include opening presents and playing games. This holiday is celebrated because of the birth of Christ, but most people know that Christ wasn’t actually born on that day. The New Testament doesn’t give any clues about the exact day Jesus was born, so the 25th of December was universally accepted. The reason we give presents on this day is because the three wise men brought gifts to the baby Jesus. The word Christmas can be broken up into two words: Christ and Mass. Christ, who is the Son of God, and Mass, which is a holiday that Catholics celebrate as an act of worship. The first Christmas was celebrated in Rome, Italy. Many families have different traditions. I interviewed people to learn about their family traditions during Christmas.
Here are their responses:
- Forrest Henry: Open presents and then head to my grandparents’ house for lunch and dinner.
- Max Brown: Open presents, then play with them.
- Crey Leman: Go to my grandma and grandpa’s, eat, and open presents.
- Luke Spangler: Open presents, then eat. Sometimes, we have a church service.
- Bristol Hirstein: Hang out with family and friends, exchange gifts, watch Christmas movies, and bake things.
- Josiah Steffen: Pretend to go caroling and spend time with family.
- Hunter Wurmnest: Open presents, then have my mom’s side Christmas party.
- Jason Garnant: Play board games or video games.
