I wanted to interview Mr. Wear since he is teaching 8th grade now instead of 6th.
Why do you teach science?
Because it’s the best subject.
When did you start teaching?
2001.
What led you to teaching?
The fact that I couldn’t deal with dead bodies. (Context: He was training to be a doctor, and in one class, they brought him to a morgue for anatomy.)
Do you prefer teaching 6th or 8th grade?
“Jury’s still out on that.”
What is your favorite animal? Why?
A cheetah, because they are fast.
Do you like (or follow) sports? If so, what sport and team?
I like all sports: Cubs, Hornets, but I don’t have any other favorite professional teams.
What is your favorite food? Why?
“Chocolate cake. Who doesn’t like chocolate?”
What motivates you to teach (helps you get up and get to school in the morning)? Why?
“Students, I like the challenge.”
What would be the first thing you did if you stumbled upon a million dollars? Why?
“Probably save it for my kids’ college because college is expensive. Then, whatever’s left, put it towards a turf baseball field.”
If you had three wishes, what would they be? Why?
- He never has to work on his car again, and all his cars work perfectly forever, because it’s an extra expense.
- Be able to talk to animals, because he has a lot of animals in his house and could tell his cat to shut up.
- Unlimited money.
Why did you decide to coach baseball?
“It’s a sport I love. It’s the one that I played the most, and I think it’s one of the best sports.”
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
Christmas, because he can celebrate the birth of Christ.
What is your favorite part about teaching science? Why?
“I like being able to teach things that people don’t totally understand and get a chance to blow things up.”
What is your favorite part (chunk/unit) of science?
Astronomy—he finds space fascinating.
