Have you ever wondered how many of your favorite animals it would take to equal one horsepower? Well, I got bored and decided to find some animal equivalents to horsepower. I was inspired by a YouTube video called “Horsepower vs. Duckpower” by Art of Engineering. In the video, the guy used Kleiber’s Law, which calculates the metabolic rate by raising an animal’s mass to the power of 3/4. He modified it to find the power of any animal by changing the mass in the equation to the average mass of the animal over the average mass of a horse. So, here are some horsepower equivalents for a few animals:
- 131.2 Duckpower
- 115.0 Jimmypower (Red-and-Green Macaw)
- 7 Dogpower
- 47.6 Catpower
