We interviewed the Lego League team to see what they think about the sport.
Do you think the stuff you do is important?
Jamie said, “Yes, because they learn to work in a team.”
Isaac: “Not very much; if they could fix something, someone else can.”
Stanley: “Sort of. It teaches you how to code and fix STEM problems and engineering.”
Jakoby: “Yes, because it’s a sport for the mind, so it’s like a gym for the mind to grow.”
How can this affect the real world?
Jamie said, “Coding, because it’s a skill.”
Isaac said, “It can remove algae and help the ocean.”
Stanley said, “Part of Lego League is called the innovation project, where we have a problem based on the theme of the year. The theme is the ocean, and we are fixing dead zones in the ocean from algae.”
Jakoby said, “Making an ocean cleanup robot.”
Why did you join?
Jamie: “Because it was fun last year.”
Isaac: “I have no idea.”
Stanley: “In my church, a lot of people did it, and I needed a group to belong to.”
Jakoby: “I’ve always liked robotics and technology.”
