We decided to interview Mrs. Worner for one of this week’s Hornet Spotlights. Here is what we got:
- What classes did you go to college for?: A Major in Elementary Education.
- What inspires you to teach?: The thought of shaping young minds.
- Why are you teaching journalism?: I was told to, but I now really like it.
- Why do you teach ELA?: It was the only job open when I wanted a job, but I now love it.
- What is your favorite hour?: I plead the fifth.
- Do you prefer to teach ELA journalism or do the yearbook committee?: ELA, because that’s my main job title.
- What is your favorite subject other than ELA?: Science, because the experiments are ballin’. (She then added, “skibidi rizz, no cap.”) [Yes, this is real.]
- What is your favorite book?: The Great Alone.
- What is one question you would want someone to ask you as a teacher?: (Yup, that’s the answer.)
- What do you think makes your class a good learning environment?: It is (proceeds to ask Max Beard) motherly and comfortable, not threatening.
- How do you feel about graphic novels?: I think they are a great starting point to get kids interested in reading.
- If you could only leave behind one thing about having taught here, what would it be?: Just the connections I have made with students.
- Any book recommendations? Divergent, by Veronica Roth.
- If you had to teach another subject, what would it be?: Science or Social Studies.
- What is some advice for any aspiring ELA teachers?: Stay strong, and don’t throw the children out the window. (There was chaos in the background as this was asked.)
