We asked a couple of the spelling finalists some questions about the spelling bee. We inquired about their thoughts on being a finalist and if they believed they would emerge as winners.
We spoke to Lucy Wettstein, Zola Ahlers, Violet Kuntz, Jaxon Sangalli, Sam Miller, and Rex Denham.
Lucy Wettstein:
“I feel nervous.”
“No, I don’t think so.”
Zola Ahlers:
“I feel accomplished.”
“No.”
Violet Kuntz:
“I’m slightly nervous about performing in front of people, but I’m proud to be part of it.”
“There is tough competition, but I don’t believe I can win. I think I can make it into the top five.”
Jaxon Sangalli:
“Not well.”
“No.”
Sam Miller:
“I feel pretty cool. I have been a finalist and attended the spelling bee almost every year in middle school. It’s quite exciting, honestly.”
“Uh, no. I think I can give it a try, but I don’t think I will succeed.”
Rex Denham:
“I feel pretty good, and I believe I will perform well.”
“Maybe I won’t win, but I could potentially come in second or third place.”
