Q: How long have you been teaching?

A:27 years

 

Q: How long have you been a drill sergeant?

A: 5 years. I retired in 2010. I was in the army for 22 years.

 

Q: What is it like to be a drill instructor?

A: I enjoyed it.

 

Q: Are the army camps like they show in the movie?

A: The movies always get it wrong.

 

Q:  What is the best part about teaching?

A: That it’s different every day; solving problems.

 

Q: What was the best part about the army?

A: The unity of purpose. How everybody is fighting for the same cause.

 

Q: Where there any other branches you wanted to join?

A: I didn’t want to go into the navy or the airforce and the army door was the closest

 

Q: What is your favorite lesson you teach?

A: It is compounds, elements, and chemical reactions

Q: What do you think the students think of you?

A: I don’t really know or think about it

Q: Do you have any stories you really like?

A: One of my favorite books is killer angles about Gettysburg. It’s historical fiction. Some of my other favorites are Citizen Soldier and Band of Brothers by Stephen E. Ambrose

Q: What are your hobbies?

A: Blacksmithing, wood carving. I like being outside and working on cars.
