Wakanda Forever Review

When I first sat down to watch this movie I was ecstatic. This was on top of my movie watchlist for this year. But, I was also sad, knowing that Chadwick Boseman (the Black Panther from the first movie) wasn’t going to be in it. He died of colon cancer. So it was Letitia Wright’s time to shine. She is the Princess of Wakanda, and now the new Black Panther.

But after I got past this fact, the movie was great, it was a great sequel to an already amazing movie. I especially liked the fact that they gave T’challa (Black Panther) a funeral as one of the first scenes. I think this was a better idea than just recasting him, because I think it would be hard for some people to just move on from Chadwick Boseman after growing to love him from Black Panther, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers Infinity War. I know I definitely was not ready for a T’challa to be recast. Another thing I like about the movie is the return of M’baku. He is my favorite character from the Black Panther series because of his comedic relief and his loyalty to his country, he will run into a losing battle for his country. And most of the soldiers would follow him.

One of the best new characters is Namor. He is the main bad guy in Black Panther 2. He has a great backstory. He is introduced really well and after the first half of the movie, it almost feels like you have known him for a while. He isn’t just some made up new bad guy that felt like there was no reason for. He is a solid character and has a good actor, Namor is just a great character, and deserves a main spot in the movie.

Quick Summary

The movie starts out with everybody bustling around Shuri’s lab while she is trying to recreate an herb to bring her brother back to life. But she ends up failing, and T’challa dies. They then bring his coffin through the city and eventually reach the forest where they bury him in a really cool coffin. After the Black Panther dies, Wakanda becomes neutral, and countries to the west start to pressure them for Vibranium. Vibranium is a special metal that only people in Wakanda have access to. Then a new character arrives, and his name is Namor. Namor brings a proposition to Wakanda, team up, or we destroy you. And for the good of Wakanda and its people, Shuri and Queen Ramonda decide to not team up. Eventually they attack and Queen Ramonda dies. So Shuri is now the official leader of Wakanda. Then there is a big fight scene and Namor and his people surrender. At the very end of the movie, in a post credits scene, Shuri goes to Haiti, and she finds out that T’challa actually had a kid named Toussaint.

Final Thoughts

After being very excited to watch this movie, I was not disappointed. This was probably the best sequel you could have asked for coming off of the original Black Panther. There is a great storyline, all of the characters are good, even the new ones, and this movie is a great way to set up the future for the universe of Marvel. This was a super good movie, and a great tribute to Chadwick Boseman’s death. I would give this film a 8.5/10. Great job on the movie Marvel!
