Volleyball is Here!

Bryleigh Brace

Volleyball season has begun here at Eureka Middle School! If you did not know the 8th grade volleyball team won state last year and so far they are 7 and 0! The 7th graders are also doing well this year they are also 7 and 0.

I interviewed both a 7th & 8th grade volleyball player to ask them about their volleyball opinions.

For a 7th grade volleyball player, I interviewed Brinley Garber

First, I asked Brinley what her favorite part of volleyball is, and she said being able to be a part of a team and being with friends. The second question I asked was what do you guys do at practice, she said that they pass, serve, scrimmage- basically all the fundamentals of volleyball. The next question I asked was what made you want to do volleyball. Brinley told me that she started playing with her aunt and she liked it, and she wanted to continue playing. Fourth, I asked her do you think you guys could be a really good team this year, and why? Brinley said that she thinks they could be very good this year because they were very successful last year. The final question I asked her was what are you looking forward to most about this volleyball season. She replied “Being able to learn more and have fun with friends.”

For an 8th grade volleyball player, I interviewed Ellie Payne and I asked her the same questions

The first question I asked Ellie was what her favorite part of volleyball was, and she told me that her favorite part was being with a team. Second, I asked what do you guys do at practice? “We do drills, mess around, and have fun.” The next question was what made you want to do volleyball. Ellie said she thought it would be fun, so she tried it, and she loved it! Fourth I asked her do you think you guys could be a really good team this year, and why? Ellie told me she thinks they could be very successful this year because they were very successful last year, and they have improved a lot. The final question I asked was what are you looking forward to most about this volleyball season. Ellie replied she is excited about the new 7th graders and being able to relive the memories they made last year.

The head volleyball here at EMS is Mrs. Hoelscher of Coach Hoelscher. I interviewed her to see her thoughts on this year’s volleyball teams.

First, I asked her why did you want to start coaching volleyball. Mrs. Hoelscher said that she had played volleyball her whole life and she did not want to give it up. The second question I asked her was what is your favorite part of coaching volleyball. She replied with, “Interacting with my athletes and helping to teach them.” The next question was what are your goals for this season? Mrs. Hoelscher told me her goals are to win their conference in both 7th & 8th grade and make state appearances with both 7th & 8th grade. Fourth I asked what is the most important thing to you as a coach and why? She said that the most important thing to her as a coach is that her athletes know they care about her and that she loves what she does. The last question I asked her was what is her biggest accomplishment ever coaching volleyball here at EMS. Mrs. Hoelscher said that her biggest accomplishment was that she has gone to state 6 out of her 9 years coaching here at EMS!

If you have not been to a volleyball game this year you should because both 7th and 8th grade teams are very good!
