Book Review- The Inheritance Games

Lydia Martin

If you’re looking for a mystery book to read, then you should TOTALLY read The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. This is a YA (Young Adult) book, so I would recommend this book for ages 12+. It is exactly 400 pages long, so a somewhat longer read. For eighth graders, this book is worth 13 AR points.

I loved this book a lot! I really like mysteries that I can follow and somewhat figure out along the way with the characters. I really got to know Avery and the Hawthorne brothers while reading, and they all have pretty distinct personalities that were fun to read about. It was full of plot twists and it was a super enjoyable book to read. Here is a short summary of The Inheritance Games:

Avery Kylie Grambs is a 17-year-old living in Connecticut… at least until she is invited to Texas for a will reading at a fancy mansion. There, she finds out that a man she’d never even met left her billions of dollars. The catch? She has to live in the mansion for a year. That doesn’t seem too bad, right? Well, she has to live in the mansion for a year with the man’s entire family, all of who were left virtually nothing, and several who want revenge on her. Throughout the book, Avery meets the four Hawthorne brothers who play a pretty big role in the story, along with some other interesting characters. To figure out why she was left the money, Avery must solve puzzles and riddles spread out throughout Hawthorne House (the mansion she must live at if she wants to inherit the money).

If this interests you, or you like mysteries, then you should totally read this book!! Also, if you read and enjoy The Inheritance Games, there are two books following this one, The Hawthorne Legacy and The Final Gambit. I haven’t read either of these two books yet, but I plan to soon!
